Riku stood frozen, helpless, as the ghost reached out with a pale arm. Somehow he knew what was coming, but he couldn't seem to get his throat to work and was unable to shout out a warning. He tried to move forward, but his legs wouldn't listen. The thick fog tangled around him, strangling him, holding him in place. He clawed at it, desperate, but it only tightened its hold, and
the ghost was there now, it was too late, its thin finger touched Sora
Riku tried to scream
he couldn't breathe
Sora was falling, his eyes wide and unseeing, he hit the deck with a loud thunk—And Riku bolted upright in his hammock, grasping at the thin shirt he wore as he sucked down gulps of air.
After a moment, he gave a light groan and buried his face in his hands.
Not again. This was getting ridiculous. Night after night, ever since Sora had come back. He peeked over at the other boy's hammock, and was immediately mad at himself for doing so. Of course he was there, of course he was
fine. He wasn't dead anymore. Riku
knew that.
Now if he could just get his subconscious to believe it.
He threw himself onto his back, arms crossed tightly over his chest and fingers tapping out an anxious pattern on his arms. The dreams would go away eventually... Right? Maybe it would just take time. He just needed to go back to sleep, it'd be morning soon enough.
Thirty seconds later he was cursing himself and rolling out of the hammock, landing lightly on the floor before creeping over to Sora's side of the room. It was dark and he could barely see anything, but he was sure Sora was sleeping as soundly as ever.
Maybe just this once...he could let himself do this. Rewind the clock a couple years and pretend he was still 10-years-old and it was totally okay to show up at Sora's bedroom window and climb into his bed. Maybe Riku's brain just needed some convincing.
He was pathetic.
But it was hard to care right now.
Leaning down, he prodded at Sora's shoulder.
"Hey," he whispered. "
Sora. Budge over."
